a toast to shelley & lisa

As my beautiful Mommy and I get all dolled up for the wedding this evening, my heart is just so full.

Shelley and Lisa, the two of you compliment one another so well. I can honestly say that I can’t imagine one of you without the other. In honor of you both, a toast:

Shelley has been my favorite human since I can remember, so seeing the love, excitement, and pride in her eyes as she introduced me to Lisa that night downtown made my heart explode.

Everyone that loves them both knows who they are and what they represent.

They represent love, thoughtfulness, generosity, unwavering loyalty, forgiveness, and joy. I can honestly say that some of the heartiest and longest belly laughs I’ve had came from our storytelling chats. They are the friends you want in your corner for every event, milestone, crisis, and celebration. They are the kind of REAL people we all cherish so much in this life, as they are few and far between. I’m so lucky to call them both family.

I look around and feel the love in this space and can feel the spirit of those who aren’t with us physically.

I look around and see that this is a real-life modern family. A family comprised of so many parts, so many different people, with different beliefs and views, but in the end, it’s love that holds it all together and rises above all else.

In this place where love rules, may the two of you always find refuge from a world that can sometimes be filled with judgment, hate and ignorance, and always remember, that place isn’t your home.

THIS IS, this “place” of love that you feel all around you is your home.

Aristotle coined the phrase “The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts” to define the modern concept of synergy. I have witnessed this synergy as the epitome of Shelley and Lisa’s essence as a couple.

When your partner makes you a better person than you were before you met them, you are lucky enough to enjoy the synergy that so many long for with a partner, but only a few of us ever get to experience.

What a gift to have had Shelley and Lisa’s paths cross in this life, and what a gift that all of us here today get to bear witness to their love and share in their happiness.

The rest of the world is finally learning what all of us here have already known for years:

Love is Love.

…just a few of the humans that i’m lucky enough to call family

Your wedding was one of the most magical, narnia-like evenings of our lives! NO ONE cared about the rain! It actually added to the vibe if you ask me! We danced, laughed and smiled so much for so many hours and will NEVER forget that evening. They say life is about learning to dance in the rain, and I can’t think of a more beautiful and special way to celebrate your marriage other than dancing barefoot in the rain under the stars with my amazing family.

I stand in gratitude always, grateful for the valleys that allow the peaks, grateful for the storms that allow the sun to shine, grateful for the broken path that led me to the journey back to my authentic self and the ability to be in service to others.

I am beyond grateful for the opportunities to have been at my loved ones’ sides, holding their hands, honored to be given the gift of walking them home. I am thankful for meaningful spiritual relationships I now have with each of them, and for their guidance, visits, and UNDENIABLE messages that show me that they haven’t gone anywhere….they’re all just done with their meat puppets.

Never let one moment, good or bad, define you or your journey. Embrace the peaks AND the valleys. Roll around like a puppy in clover when you’re at the peak and learn to not give a fuck when you are in the valleys.

You won't be there for long and that climb back up is where the magic happens….your growth.
